The Story of Higham on the Hill, the Centre of England

by Michael Cox

Rating: ★★★

To my recollection, the only book whose author I have met. In fact, I still do so quite regularly. The book is very well-researched, drawing on the sort of obscure references that only local histories ever plumb. The attention paid to the pre-1800s habitation was particularly pleasing, as I knew little about it, and the more modern sections were rich and lovingly detailed with stories that correspond to real people's memories. Of course, the topic is very niche, so of limited appeal to other readers.
